Is Woodworking4Home the Best Online Resource for Woodworkers of All Skill Levels?
As a huge fan of woodworking projects with my son, I’m always looking out for new internet resources for reliable plans. After using Woodworking4Home for about two months, I decided to write up my thoughts about the site. I’m going to give my honest opinion about what I liked and didn’t like about the site. Here is my objective Woodworking4Home review.
My son and I love to complete DIY woodworking projects, but we’ve had a hard time finding a single great resource for project ideas and plans. A friend referred me to Woodworking4Home, so I thought I’d purchase a membership and see if the site would work for my son and me.
The founder of Woodworking4Home, John Metz, has been woodworking for 20 years. After spending months trying to build a deck, he finished the project only to realize he’d gotten it wrong due to bad plans! I completely relate to this. I’ve spent weeks on some projects with my son only to realize that the project plans had missed an important detail.
John Metz then decided to start his website to provide woodworkers like me a place where we could easily find plans that we could rely on. Based on my experience using the Woodworking4Home software, I’d say he succeeded.

Selection Of Projects
The first thing that struck me when I joined Woodworking4Home was how many projects I had to choose from. The site’s gallery of projects boasts over 14,000 plans and projects you can complete at home! That’s definitely enough to keep me and my son busy for a while.
Does Your Skill Level Matter?
While I’ve been woodworking for years, my son hasn’t. It was important to me that the plans we used were clear enough for a ten year old to understand but also detailed enough for an experienced woodworker like me to use. I was stunned at how simple but thorough John Metz has made his Woodworking4Home plans. Clearly, he had both experienced and novice woodworkers in mind when he created his software!
One of the things that frustrates me most about working on a project is when I’ve reached the end and realized something was missing. All of the projects I’ve tried in the Woodworking4Home gallery (and I’ve tried quite a bit) were perfect. The step-by-step instructions didn’t leave anything out or leave anything vague about the plans.
Let me give you an experience I had trying to build a doghouse with my son. He and I downloaded the plans from Woodworking4Home and gathered all of the materials for the project. Everything we needed was specifically detailed in the plans, so I didn’t have to worry about missing a part at the very end of the project. While I did most of the actual cutting, my son was able to read the plans and mark where the cuts needed to be. They were so simple a ten year old could read them!
The whole project took less time than I anticipated because we didn’t have to fumble with the instructions. I’ve had projects where it took longer to understand the plans than to actually complete the job. This wasn’t the case with Woodworking4Home. Before my son and I knew it, we were finished with our doghouse and Sparkles (our dog) was able to enjoy her new home!
Is Woodworking4Home Overpriced?
I expected access to the Woodworking4Home software to cost me hundreds of dollars. With over 14,000 projects, of course it would be expensive, right? Wrong. Woodworking4Home was almost unbelievably inexpensive when compared to the competition.
The price seems even lower when you consider what you get with the software. Woodworking4Home comes with free updates for life, free bonuses, a full range of tried and tested projects that are great for beginner and advanced woodworkers, instant online access and more. I don’t think I could try all of the projects they have available if I tried!
Let me give you a comparison to put this into perspective. Some woodworking project cost hundreds for just the plans or a DIY kit. Woodworking4Home costs just $49 for all of those plans and more. It saves lots of money for a dad like me who likes to do projects pretty frequently.
My Complaints with Woodworking4Home
While Woodworking4Home offers a ton of features, there were some things I didn’t like. Sometimes I thought the selection was almost too much. I sometimes worried I would feel overwhelmed with how many options I had. Fortunately, the project gallery is very easy to navigate, so my fears didn’t really materialize.
It also would have been nice to have video tutorials for some projects, but with 14,000 plans to choose from, I can understand why they didn’t produce videos for every single one. I can’t even imagine the time it would take to make 14,000 videos!
Other than those things, I didn’t find any Woodworking4Home problems. I was very impressed and satisfied with the software. The plans were clear (and they worked), the bonuses were great and the cost was low.
Final Thoughts
If you are looking for a great collection of woodworking projects to complete either by yourself or with a friend, definitely check out Woodworking4Home. The cost is low, and if you’re not satisfied you can get a full refund without a hassle. Though I was worried at first, I was relieved to find that Woodworking4Home is not a scam and offered much more features than I expected when I purchased the software.
Thanks for reading my Woodworking4Home review, and good luck on your next project!
